Florence and the Machine - Rabbit Heart (Screen shots)

This is at the very beginning of Forence and the Machines video. It is an extremem close up of the face, in which it mainly focuses on Florences mouth whilst she's singing.

This is shortly after the first shot. The camera has panned out to reveal more of Florence costume and the setting that they are in. In between these two shots more people are shown, who you can just about see in the left hand side of grab.

This shot has panned out further, and it focuses in on Florence as a mid shot. You able to see more of the setting, so it also joins in as an establishing shot. More people are feature with different props and costumes.

The one image then fades into the next shot, but still having both shots visible. Giving the video a surreal like look about it. This is the type of editing that my group and i want to achieve.

This shot features more people, these actors have more extravagant outfits. The mise en scene reminds me slightly of Alice in Wonderland, with the cosutumes and the settings.
In between this shot and the next, Florence and the actors dance around the set. Similar to how we want our actors to act.

This agains mirriors part of Alice in Wonderland, with them sitting down for "afternoon tea". The shot is a full body shot, as you can see where the lower part of their body should be. The colours of the video are quite vivid, the costumes are very bright and the setting is very leafy and green.

This shot is a long shot. We are able to see what the actors are doing, their whole outfit, the rest of the set and the body movements that they are making.

This shot doesn't feature Florence, unlike the other previously. Again it shows us more of the set and the costume. But you are unsure of what they ae doing, as in the previous shot they are filmed with a coffin.
At the end of the video the coffin is set out into the river.

Overall the video is fairly strange, a mix of the story line, mise en scene, editng and camera work has created a very surreal like but also fairytale feeling to this video.

Miike Snow - Animal

This video by Miike Snow is similar to the music video that i want to create. The abstract mise en scene - costumes, masks. And the surreal camera work and editing skills; different effects in the video an "old school" film reel look, and short fast shots changing from scene to scene.

Poppy and the Jezebels - Lyrics to "UFO"

Here we were out of nothing,
into nowhere-land Fortuna 4000
Fate falls in our hands
Make mountains from moondust with people from Mars
Engines are drumming, in time with the stars

A powder filled UFO explodes across your shirt
'Coz everything has turned to dust, don't take off it won't hurt
A powder filled UFO is crushed between your teeth
The future's so last century, it's all beyond belief

Celestial circles come swirling... under our feet
Lingering luminous
Lethally sweet.. these heavenly heights we like to call home
Shine silver light, through crystals of chrome

A powder filled UFO explodes across your shirt
'Coz everything has turned to dust, don't take off it won't hurt
A powder filled UFO is crushed between your teeth
The future's so last century, it's all beyond belief

Imagination...Risk assessment...we better stay at home
Imagination...Crash position...underneath the dome

A powder filled UFO explodes across your shirt
'Coz everything has turned to dust, don't take off it won't hurt
A powder filled UFO is crushed between your teeth
The future's so last century, it's all beyond belief

Poppy and the Jezebels

http://www.myspace.com/poppyandthejezebels

This is the song that we will be using in our music video, i feel that it will fit in well with the ideas that we have because the song is very surreal, and the lyrics are different to other lyrics heard in mainstream songs.

Poppy and the Jezebels response

This the response from Poppy and Jezebels manager. We now have permission to use a song which is in the genre that we wanted to make our music video in, and we know that it will fit in well with our ideas.

Response from Portia Conn's Management

This is the response from Portia Conn's manager. This is really helpful as we know have a solid back up if we unable to use Poppy and the Jezebels.

Emails to Portia Conn & Poppy and the Jezebels management

Portia Conn.:

Poppy and the Jezebels:

These where sent by another member of my group to the artists.
It is important to get permission for the songs as they are both signed artist's. If we didn't have their permission we would have problems with copyright laws.

Poppy and the Jezebels

Poppy and the Jezebels are also a local band (Birmingham). I feel that there genre of music will fit in better to our music video than Portia Conn's would, this is because the music that they play is more alternative and indie, rather than acoustic.

Portia Conn

Portia Conn is a local artist, i feel that the type of music that she plays would fit in well for our music video. We will be using Portia for a back up song if we cannot get permission to use Poppy and the Jezebels.

Schedule

Hopefully i will be able to complete each of these projects by the listed date, if i do not i will try and finish it as close to the date as possible.

What i will to include for my : Digi-pak, Advert and Music Video

For my Digi-pak I will need to create a front cover image; I will do this my taking an image of the main actor featuring in the video, this will be Joanna who we have decided to use as a face for the video as we will not be able to have the actual band. We would then need to create a theme and layout of the Digi-pak e.g, colours, extra images and backgrounds. The Digi-pak is a form of packaging, it is used to keep the CD protected and also to attract buyers. This is why it is important to have an eye catching image or/and colours on the front. The Digi-pak will consist of the band’s name and the albums name, a track list - which is generally printed on the back of the case, details of how to contact them – management and websites, a logo – bands are sometimes recognised by initials or font that they frequently use for their band’s name, the bands label and record company and parental advisory stickers is needed.
Similar styles will feature on the advertisement/poster; a band name and image will be needed to recognise the band, where the song is sold and maybe where they will be playing gigs, release date for the record, record label and copyright information (small print) and also a band website. All of these images and writing featured on the poster/advert will need to be eye catching and appealing to the chosen target audience. Otherwise the band will lose out on sales and fans.
In the video I will need to include various different camera angles, for example; close ups, long shots, establishing shots and mid shots. These are all needed to set the scene and display the costumes and setting (mise en scene). I will also need actors, as we will not being using a live band, to act out the song. Our song name is “UFO” so we will be playing on the extraterrestrial theme and make our video unusual and quirky, similar to videos performed by Florence Welch from “Florence and the Machines”.

Florence and the machine - Dog Days Are Over

After evaluateing all of my groups information we came to the conculsion that people where mainly interested in indie and alternetive rock. This then led us to look at bands in these types of genres. I was shown Florence and the Machines video Dog Days Are Over (above) by a member of my group, it's very surreal and abstract as it doesn't conform to the "normal" set up for a music video, a straight forward storyline with backing music. I particularly liked the settings and the costumes in the video.

This is the album cover for Florence and the Machines - "Lungs", the album art relates back to the video, due to the settings and the costume. There is a variety of colours in the image, making it birght and attractive, it also looks fantasy/farytale like. The name of the album is also incorporated into the picture, showing Florences lungs. The compostion is standard, the name of the band the top of the album cover, image in the middle, and album name at the bottom.
